Antenatal classes
A programme of sessions designed to complement those offered by the NHS. The classes are based around informed choice and cover relaxation and breathing, different positions for labour, choices in pain relief, self help techniques, as well as common obstetric procedures. Services like Bra fitting and Valley Cushion hire are available locally and can be booked through the course. Classes are held locally in the evening or at weekends. A fee is charged but concessions are available. Also one to one refresher sessions are available for second or subsequent time parents. Postnatal Courses
A course of informal discussions can be held on demand over 6 weeks for mothers with babies under 6 months to explore feelings and share experiences on parenting and other issues. On both courses you can meet new mum and dads from your area and great and lasting friendships have been forged through these courses. Our antenatal teachers, breastfeeding counsellors and postnatal leaders undergo a thorough training with the NCT although they are not required to be medically qualified. All teachers, counsellors and leaders are expected to keep up to date with the latest developments in maternity care and must register with us every year. Their role is to offer support, information, practical skills and resources to help parents make informed choices for themselves and their babies. They do not offer medical advice and parents are asked to take any questions about the medical care of mother and baby to their midwife, health visitor or doctor.

NCT Antenatal Courses - Discounted Price Policy
We charge for our Antenatal, Early Days and Breastfeeding courses in order to pay the expenses of running the course, develop training and resources for parents and to support the wider work of the NCT, which includes lobbying for improvements in maternity services. We do offer discounted prices to parents who would find it difficult to pay the full amount. These discounts vary from a minimum payment of £20 to 50% of the full course price. It is also possible for you to pay for your course in instalments. Please ask your booking administrator in confidence for more details.
